The ISRI Blueprint - Safety Culture Assessment

The ISRI Blueprint Safety Culture Assessment has recently been updated to include more components related to Safety Culture.  The Blueprint process facilitates a discussion among senior managers that allows them to identify the strengths and weaknesses of 75 components of the facility’s safety culture.

Safety Training - General Safety Class

The General Safety s Class is a one day class which replaces ISRI’s former 10 Hour Safety Training Class and is provided at the ISRI member’s facility.

Hazard Recognition in Recycling

This course was developed in conjunction with the OSHA Susan Harwood grant program. It is relevant to scrap recyclers across all commodities who would like their employees to learn more about hazard recognition and mitigation in the operations environment.

Machine Guarding in Recycling

Machine guarding is one of the tenants of any safety program. ISRI received grant funding through OSHA’s Susan Harwood grant program to develop these materials.

Transportation Assessment Program

ISRI offers a transportation safety assessment, which focuses on six key components:  general responsibilities, driver responsibilities, operational responsibilities, vehicle responsibilities, hazardous material responsibilities (if applicable), and crash responsibilities.

Hands-on Vehicle Inspection Class

A CMV is required for this class a tractor/trailer, or roll-off straight truck. This class focuses on the following; how to perform a thorough vehicle inspection, vehicle nomenclature, leading vehicle trend defects (lights, tires, brakes, etc.), and CVSA out-of-service criteria.

Safety Culture Training

A new Safety Culture Training class for managers and supervisors has recently been developed.  It focuses on the elements of Management Leadership, Employee Engagement and Accountability.  It is for management and supervisors but should be completed by top management first.  It can take up to 8 hours including some time in the field.   It covers several examples of things that can positively or negatively influence the Safety Culture.

Powered Industrial Vehicle Train-the-Trainer

The powered industrial vehicle operator safety train-the-trainer class is designed to provide education and training to scrap recyclers across all commodities. The aim is to provide information in a 1-day classroom and hands-on setting that will create trainers in your organization who can then continue educating your employees on powered industrial vehicle safety.

Material Handler Train-the-Trainer

The Material Handler Train-the-Trainer includes one full day in the classroom covering equipment related safety information and 4 – 6 hours in the field going over equipment inspection, blind spot drills, machine set-up and control, as well as loading and unloading exercises. This course is designed to give trainers at your facility a better understanding of safety in and around material handlers.
