The integrated North American scrap industry is stronger than ever, boosted by the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) that entered into force in July 2020 as well as a stimulated manufacturing sector incorporating more recycled material than ever before. Canada has regained the position as the top destination for U.S. scrap exports and Mexico is among the top five markets for several scrap commodity segments. Likewise, the United States is a top market for scrap from both countries. Taken together, the North American market is responsible for more than 11.4 million metric tons worth nearly $7 billion in scrap trade.
