ISRI Gulf Coast Region Presents ISRI President with the 2022 Israel Proler Award

President Robin Wiener Receives Prestigious Award During Gulf Coast Annual Summer Convention

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) President Robin Wiener received the ISRI Gulf Coast Region’s 2022 Israel Proler Award today in New Orleans. Presented during the Gulf Coast Region’s annual summer convention, the award recognizes individuals for their outstanding leadership, achievements, and contributions to the recycling industry. Wiener is recognized for the positive work she has done for ISRI and the recycling industry for more than 33 years.

“I am so incredibly honored, especially when I look at the list of those who have won the award before me,” said Wiener. “I love this industry and its members, and I look forward to continuing to serve and live up to the standard set by Israel Proler so many years ago.”

Wiener joined ISRI in 1989, initially serving as a compliance coordinator, then as assistant counsel and director of environmental compliance. She was named ISRI’s executive director in 1997. In March 2000, ISRI’s board conferred on her the title of president.

As part of her role representing the recycling industry, Wiener has been appointed as a member of the Key Industry Associations Committee (KIAC) of ASAE, and serves on the boards of Keep America Beautiful, the Recycling Partnership, and JASON Learning. She has also served on the boards of SERI (Sustainable Electronics Recycling International), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), and the National Recycling Council (NRC). For over 10 years, Wiener served as an appointee on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Steel (ITAC-12).

“Robin has been a role model. I’ve watched her work over the last 18 years I’ve been in this industry,” said Nidhi Turakhia, ISRI Gulf Coast Region President. “I know how much time, commitment, and passion she has placed to make recycling an important part of the entire economy.”

The Proler Award is named in memory of Israel Proler, founder of Proler International Corp. in Houston, who served as Gulf Coast Chapter President of the Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel (an ISRI predecessor) from 1955-1956. Among his professional achievements, “Izzie” Proler helped develop the forerunner of today’s modern automobile shredder along with his brothers Sam and Herman “Hymie” Proler.
